I know what you are going through. While I started playing guitar many years ago, I remember how it felt to be a beginner. I wanted to play all the cool songs that my guitar heroes were playing and have the freedom to express myself with the guitar. But I had not idea where to start and what to do.
After wasting a lot of money and time trying to decipher confusing tab books and not progressing through instructional DVDs (there was no internet then), I decided to take guitar lessons. I was reading every book I could put my hands on, deciphering confusing guitar tab books and later on, with the invention of the internet, scouring through websites for free guitar lessons. But, despite my efforts, I was not progressing as much as I wanted to. I felt stuck. It wasn’t until I found a great guitar teacher that I became a better guitar player, got rid of my bad learning habits (and my frustration with them) and finally learned the things I needed to learn.
I have had countless students come to me with the same situation. They spend countless hours and dollars on tab books, DVDs, free guitar lessons on YouTube etc all with the same feelings and results- frustration and very little progress. The exciting thing is that I have helped every one of them turn their situation around by developing a long term plan that gave them the results they wanted and allowed them the comfort and freedom to truly play the guitar.
